Books like Poems by W. H. Auden

This two‑volume collection brings together the full range of W.H. Auden’s early prose. Volume 1 compiles essays, reviews, and the complete original versions of his illustrated travel books Letters from Iceland (with Louis MacNeice) and Journey to a War (with Christopher Isherwood). The writings span extravagant travel diaries, literary critiques, and wide‑ranging essays on politics, theology, psychology, and everyday life. Volume 2 gathers Auden’s prose from the first decade of his American life, including pieces written under pseudonyms, reflecting his newfound citizenship, personal relationships, and engagements with American culture and Protestant theology. Much of the material had never been reprinted since its initial publication in prominent magazines and newspapers such as The Nation, the New Republic, Common Sense, Vogue, and The New York Times.
