Books like Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward

Nadine Morgan travels far and wide as a journalist, chasing stories that keep her free. After an assignment in Cape Town ends in tragedy, she avoids the country, her heart, and the ghosts of her past. When she hears about the murder of American student Jason Irving during apartheid, her curiosity pulls her back. Jason’s mother, furious that the killers have applied for amnesty, arrives from Nantucket to fight the request for forgiveness. As Nadine follows the Irvings to South Africa’s haunting landscapes, she is confronted with her own memories of adventure, heartbreak, and the consequences of breaking ties. The investigation brings her close to both Jason’s grieving mother and the mother of one of the accused killers, creating a tangled web that challenges her sense of right and wrong. Through the courtroom drama and personal reckonings, Nadine faces deep-seated guilt, the missing pieces of her family’s past, and the question of what true love and forgiveness mean in a country that feels both foreign and familiar.
