Luke Skywalker and his wife, Mara Jade, are still learning to balance the demands of the Jedi Order with their roles as a married couple. Their bond is tested when a surprise message from Nirauan—the planet where former Emperor Palpatine’s disciple Thrawn once ruled—reveals the remains of the doomed *Outbound Flight*, a pioneering Jedi expedition that was destroyed fifty years prior. The planet’s honor‑bound aliens offer the wreckage to the New Republic, inviting the Skywalkers on a perilous voyage into a treacherous star cluster. Joined by an officer of the post‑Palpatine Empire, a group of diplomatic envoys, and a New Republic ambassador with a hidden agenda, Luke and Mara confront suspicion, secrecy, and a saboteur aboard the isolated ship. Inside the derelict *Outbound Flight*, buried on a desolate planetoid for half a century, ancient revelations and unexpected terrors surface, challenging the Skywalkers’ faith and their very existence as they face the deathtrap left by foes determined to finish Thrawn’s work of exterminating the Jedi.
