Books like Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

Twenty-five years ago, Maggie Holt and her parents fled the ominous Baneberry Hall after a night of terrifying supernatural occurrences that her father later chronicled in a bestselling memoir. As his estranged daughter, Maggie grows up skeptical of the haunting claims. Years later, after her father’s death, Maggie inherits the estate and decides to renovate and sell it. The town’s residents, wary of the fame that had sullied their community, are not welcoming, and familiar faces from the infamous book linger in the shadows. The house itself, with its creaking floors and whispering corridors, begins to reveal unsettling phenomena that mirror the events described by her father. Faced with whether the supernatural is real or a fabrication, Maggie must navigate the secrets of Baneberry Hall and uncover a truth that challenges everything she believed about her family and the house’s storied past.
