Books like Suspicion by Barbara Rogan

Novelist Emma Roth believes New York City is the only place for her to thrive, until she and her family relocate to an expansive Victorian mansion overlooking Long Island Sound. The house, with its octagonal tower library, seems almost voyeuristic to a writer of ghost stories. Soon after moving in, Emma experiences a series of unnerving events: characters from a computer game whisper personal insults, her manuscripts are altered, and her home is intruded upon. The problems intensify when her personal thoughts, secrets, and fears are exploited by an intimate but elusive adversary. Only when Emma is alone does the intrusion become most active, driving her to question her sanity and her husband Roger’s suggestion that she may be hallucinating. Rumors of a haunted house add another layer of intrigue, but Emma’s pragmatic, humorless perspective on ghosts keeps her skeptical. As the attacks become increasingly bizarre and dangerous, she must decide whether the menace is psychological, supernatural, or a combination of both, and whether she can trust the people closest to her.
