Books like 10,000 dresses by Marcus Ewert
Bailey has a vivid nightly world of dresses made from crystals, rainbows, flowers, and even windows. Yet when he shares these fantasies with his parents, they respond with disapproval and insist that he is a "boy" and should not think about dresses.
Through seeking companionship, Bailey meets older girl Laurel, who is moved by his imagination and courage. Laurel encourages him to embrace his creative spirit, and together they start making dresses. Their friendship becomes a source of support and inspiration as Bailey’s dreams evolve into tangible projects.
The story celebrates self‑perception and identity, especially for children who feel different, while highlighting the power of friendship, collaboration, and the creative process.
