Victoria Grace Ransom is feeling the weight of her family fortune. The reclusive 600-pound narrator of Carol Dawson's brilliant, beguiling new novel. Victoria has a stunning story to tell. a true woman of substance, and unlike any character you've ever met, she is heir to a dynasty built on ice--a grand legacy slowly shifting, shimmering, and melting away in the Texas heat. Victoria feeds on the family history, and what a history it is--a saga of list and revenge, scandal and sin, obsession and betrayal. And as the Ransom tale unfolds, so too does Victoria's secret. For as the last of the surviving Ransom--the repository of a remarkable body of knowledge--she must ultimately come to terms with the truth that has bled her bloodline dry. Taut with conflict, seething with passion, alive with wit, Body of Knowledge is a deeply satisfying novel of exquisite eloquence, magical charm, and mythic dimension.
