Books like I've got a home in glory land by Karolyn Smardz Frost

In 1831, young Thornton Blackburn planned a bold escape for his bride, Lucie, who faced sale into New Orleans’ slave markets. Their attempt was thwarted by slave catchers in Michigan, who intended to return them to Kentucky. The local black community’s support sparked the Blackburn Riot of 1833, leading to the couple’s spirited crossing to Canada. Despite Michigan’s demand for extradition, the case became the first major legal dispute between Canada and the United States over the Underground Railroad, establishing precedents for future fugitive‑slave cases. Settling in Toronto, the Blackburns founded the city’s first taxi business, and their home became a refuge for runaway slaves. Their legacy endured until their deaths in the 1890s, and a later archaeological find in a downtown Toronto school yard revived their story.
