Books like Joy comes in the morning by Jonathan Rosen

In a quiet hospital ward, Rabbi Deborah Green confronts the weight of her own doubts and the moral complexities of her calling. Her encounter with Henry Friedman, a Holocaust survivor who has attempted suicide, forces her to confront whether long‑held religious promises can heal profound loss. Henry’s son, Lev, a science reporter, has abandoned his fiancée after a disastrous proposal. His pragmatic outlook clashes with and, at times, complements Deborah’s blend of devotion and irreverence. As their paths cross, a fraught emotional triangle develops—deception, longing, and faith entangled in a quest for meaning. The novel explores the psychological aftermath of wartime trauma, the precarious balance of single women’s lives, and the struggle between idealistic religious aspirations and the harsh realities of human desire.
