Books like Dismissed with prejudice by J. A. Jance

Seattle detective J.P. Beaumont is called to the scene of a Japanese businessman’s death. Tadeo Kurobashi, a software magnate with interests in computers, poetry, money, and Samurai lore, is found clutching a Samurai sword, seemingly committing seppuku. Beaumont quickly realizes that the manner of death contains unmistakable irregularities. Investigating the case leads Beaumont to confront a tangled web of motives and suspects, ultimately revealing that Kurobashi’s death may have been orchestrated rather than a self-immolation. The story blends police procedure, cultural intrigue, and a classic mystery as the killer’s identity is exposed. The novel explores the clash of East‑West traditions, the personal obsession of the murdered businessman, and the detective’s determination to uncover the truth, all set against the backdrop of Seattle crime lore.
