Books like Those who knew by Idra Novey

Ten years after a brutal regime collapsed in an unnamed island nation, Lena’s life is still shadowed by her past. Once a student activist, she now lives in a country reshaping itself after authoritarian rule. While navigating the new political landscape, Lena becomes convinced that a powerful senator, who once held a seat of influence and with whom she had a personal relationship, may have been involved in a murder. Despite the gravity of her suspicion, she remains silent, driven by her family's shameful support of the former regime and the absence of concrete evidence to support her claim. She recalls her earlier decision to keep the truth hidden when the senator and she were dating—a decision that now gnaws at her conscience as she confronts the lingering effects of political corruption and the potential danger of speaking out.
