Books like Torch of freedom by David Weber

When the Star Kingdom of Manticore faces a wave of assassinations, Anton Zilwicki and Havenite agent Victor Cachat investigate the possibility that forces beyond the Republic of Haven are responsible. Their investigation leads them to the newly liberated planet Torch, where Queen Berry, a former slave‑broker turned monarch, is targeted. Torch’s politics are further complicated by Jeremy X, the former head of a slave‑liberation organization who now commands the planet’s security and is still viewed as a dangerous terrorist. A security officer from Beowulf arrives to protect the Queen, despite her distrust of guards and his growing personal attachment to her. Meanwhile, factions within the Solarian League maneuver for dominance, sensing that the assassination crisis could collapse the League’s fragile unity. The novel explores how covert agendas and shifting loyalties threaten interplanetary peace and the future of free worlds.
