Books like The Final Day: A John Matherson Novel by William R. Forstchen

The Final Day follows the United States a month after the end of One Year After, as the nation grapples with a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse that has devastated electricity, infrastructure, and society. John Matherson, who helped resist the fall of the federal government, now works to reestablish the pre‑EMP social order. The federal government declares its intent to cede large portions of the country to China and Mexico, leaving the Constitution irrelevant and the remaining U.S. Army tasked with suppressing unrest. John’s old commanding officer, General Bob Scales—once his closest friend—arrives to confront him, forcing a choice between obedience and a potential turning point for American unity. As the federal regime cracks under the pressure of curbing liberty and abandoning sovereignty, the novel questions whether its actions will fuel the very revolution it fears.
