Books like Losing my religion by William Lobdell

William Lobdell’s memoir traces the arc of a veteran New York‑based journalist who, after a failed marriage, became a born‑again evangelical in his late twenties. He saw a glaring disconnect between religious claims and the actions of those who professed them. Assigned to the religion beat of the Los Angeles Times in 1998, Lobdell spent eight years covering spiritual stories across the United States, uncovering discrepancies between the teachings of various faith traditions and the conduct of believers and leaders alike. The investigative work, combined with personal struggles, gnawed at his convictions and led to a profound crisis of faith. In the summer of 2007 he penned a candid essay that questioned all of his religious assumptions, sparking international discussion about doubt and belief. His account is a veritable roadmap of the modern faith‑to‑skepticial journey, rendered through the lens of a seasoned journalist who witnessed both the moral aspirations and the ethical failures of religious institutions.
