Books like Greentown by Timothy Dumas

Timothy Dumas tells the true story of Martha Moxley’s tragic death in the exclusive Greenwich neighborhood of Belle Haven. The battered body of the popular fifteen‑year‑old was found on Halloween night, two days after she was bludgeoned to death on her front lawn. The investigation focused on the Skakel family across the street, as the murder weapon—a lady’s golf club—came from their house and Thomas Skakel was the last person known to see Martha alive. Yet as the police pursued the case, the community closed in, silencing witnesses, limiting information, and stalling the inquiry. Over time, evidence became stale, witnesses unreliable, and the case went cold—with no charges filed. Dumas draws from extensive research and journalistic experience to detail how the unresolved murder has become woven into Greenwich’s history, reflecting broader social conditions and the challenges of criminal investigation in a tight‑knit town.
