In October 2002, Susan Polk, a mother of three, was arrested in her Northern California town for the murder of her husband, Felix. The case captivated police, attorneys, and national media, turning the Polk family’s domestic drama into one of the most riveting murder trials of recent years. Catherine Crier examines the twenty‑year marriage that began with a controversial romance between Felix, a psychologist twenty years Senior to Susan, and high‑school Susan, exploring how sexual entanglement, psychological abuse, and family strain contributed to a violent outcome. Drawing on court records, interviews, and never‑before‑seen evidence, Crier reconstructs the turbulent chronology of the Polk household and the subsequent investigation, revealing the detailed work of law enforcement and the complexities of the courtroom as Susan struggled with her defense team and eventually chose to defend herself. The book offers a chilling exploration of psychological motivation, family trauma, and the criminal justice process in true‑crime form.
