Marla Mason, a resourceful and slightly mischievous witch from the East Coast, serves as the guard of Felport’s city. When a rival sorcerer plans a spell that could end her life and devastate the city, Marla’s only hope is to retrieve the Cornerstone, a powerful magical artifact hidden in San Francisco. Upon arriving, she finds that the quest is far from straightforward: key allies are dead, the city’s local sorcerers are under attack by an unknown assailant, and the sinister killing of prominent magical figures creates a tense atmosphere. With her companion Rondeau, Marla must navigate the alien streets of San Francisco, avoid venomous frogs, murderous hummingbirds, cannibals, and a suspicious local witch circle that suspects her involvement. To protect herself and the city, she must uncover the identity of the killer before becoming a casualty of the very dangers she confronts.
