Books like Optimists die first by Susin Nielsen
Petula de Wilde has become wary of the world since her sister’s death, and her new art therapy class feels like a cruel reminder of her trauma. Although she detests the group of misfit classmates, the presence of Jacob—an awkward teen with a prosthetic arm—provides a glimmer of hope. Working side‑by‑side on projects, Jacob helps Petula face her fears, while his own hidden struggle challenges their fragile friendship. As they grow closer, each learns that healing requires more than art and courage; it demands honesty and trust.
