Books like One last breath by Stephen Booth

Set amidst the limestone caverns of Derbyshire’s Peak District, "One Last Breath" follows Detective Constable Ben Cooper as he investigates a fresh murder that eerily mirrors a brutal killing from thirteen years prior. The quarry‑deep tunnels around Castleton create a claustrophobic backdrop for a hunt that pits Cooper against a suspect named Mansell Quinn, whose parole violation coincides with the new crime. Cooper, the son of the officer who originally arrested Quinn, grapples with doubts about the old case while his department races to capture a potential serial killer. The novel weaves through the shadows of the underground maze, probing themes of justice, revenge, and the enduring impact of past sins. Key characters include Detective Sergeant Diane Fry, whose partnership with Cooper is central to the investigation, and the enigmatic Quinn, whose presence threatens the safety of those who once opposed him. The story hinges on the tension between past convictions and present evidence, challenging law‑enforcement procedures and the moral complexities of policing. "One Last Breath" offers a gripping police procedural that highlights the treacherous alliances and hidden histories hidden beneath England’s storied landscape.
