Books like Artificial minds by Stan Franklin

In *Artificial Minds*, Stan Franklin offers a comprehensive tour of contemporary interdisciplinary research that is reshaping our understanding of mind. He reframes the traditional mind/non‑mind dichotomy into a continuum, positioning the mind as a control structure whose chief job is to select future actions. Drawing from cognitive science, neural networks, artificial life, and robotics, Franklin highlights landmark theories and systems—including Newell’s SOAR, Holland’s genetic algorithms, Brooks’ subsumption architecture, Minsky’s society of mind, and Edelman’s neural Darwinism—illustrating how they contribute to a new paradigm of cognitive intelligence. The book serves as both an accessible introduction and a concise reference for scholars and practitioners interested in the cognitive underpinnings of artificial systems.
