Books like Homosex by Simon Sheppard

Simon Sheppard’s *Homosex* assembles a distinctive collection of gay erotic narratives that trace queer male sexuality across decades. Beginning with World War II mimeographed stories smuggled from Tijuana, it journeys through pulp‑paperback porn to contemporary online literature. The anthology includes celebrated works by Jack Fritscher, Aaron Travis and Bob Vickery, alongside stories such as Phil Andros’s 1953 farm‑barn encounter, Richard Amory’s 1966 frontier adventure, and John Preston’s 1979 master‑servile tale. Diverse settings—from psychedelic 1960s Berkeley, wartime Vietnam and Texan roadside scenes to legionnaires on the frontlines—feature a vibrant array of characters, including leathermen, drag queens, sailors, hustlers, accountants, and even gay vampires. Curated by one of gay erotica’s celebrated voices, the volume offers readers a sweeping look at the evolution of queer male erotica across time and genre.
