Books like Cowboy by Sara Davidson

Television writer Sara Davidson stumbles into a cowboy poetry festival while on assignment for *Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman*. There she meets Daniel, a country‑bred cowboy and rawhide bridle maker whose green eyes ignite a spark that she initially dismisses. Months later, pulled by an irresistible pull, Sara invites Daniel over for a weekend that swiftly alters both their lives. The relationship shakes up Sara’s well‑ordered world: a novelist, television producer educated at Berkeley and Columbia, she balances her writing career with parenting two young children. Daniel, classically born of the desert, lives in a trailer and has only finished high school. Their starkly different backgrounds create almost insurmountable obstacles—yet each meets a physical and emotional hunger that compels them to defy expectations. The children eye the cowboy at first fascinated, then more critical as it becomes clear he may linger. Friends and professional colleagues weigh in, questioning whether a city woman should cross such a divide. Sara finds herself wrestling with loyalty, the pull of her heart, and the pull of her responsibilities. Faced with a dilemma between stability and passion, she must decide whether to bridge the worlds she fights between or walk away, trading a lingering romance for the continuity of her life.
