Books like Tall, dark, and Cajun by Sandra Hill

Rachel Fortier, a home‑design consultant in her thirties, grows tired of an unfulfilling engagement after discovering her fiancé’s vasectomy. She travels to Louisiana to stay with her great‑aunt Gizelle, a former taxidermist who lives in a cabin on stilts amid the bayous. While adjusting to the wild surroundings—filled with alligators, snakes, and a distinct rural charm—Rachel encounters Remy LeDeux, a helicopter pilot and Air Force veteran whose battle scars and rugged charm immediately captivate her. Despite obstacles, including a love triangle with her ex‑fiancé and the eccentricities of Gizelle’s life, Rachel finds herself drawn to Remy’s world, and their growing affection offers a fresh start. The story mixes contemporary romance with the unique backdrop of Louisiana and the idiosyncratic characters who inhabit it.
