Books like Child of the Jungle by Sabine Kuegler

Sabine Kuegler was five when her German linguist–missionary parents, along with her siblings, relocated to the Fayu homelands in Papua New Guinea. Living alongside this hunter‑and‑gatherer community, Sabine experienced the jungle’s rhythms, its dangers, and the tight bonds of Fayu society. The Kueglers were accepted by a clan chief, and over the years the family and the tribe influenced one another, learning new ways to address violence and to seek forgiveness. At seventeen, Sabine left the jungle for Switzerland, entered a boarding school, and began to confront the differences between her jungle upbringing and the Western society she now inhabited. Child of the Jungle is a memoir that explores the complexities of identity, belonging, and the bridges between two very different worlds.
