Books like The hallelujah side by Rhoda Huffey

Roxanne ‘Roxy’ Fish, the eldest daughter of Sister Zelda and Pastor Winston Fish of the First Assembly of God Church in Ames, Iowa, is raised in a household that fervently expects the imminent Second Coming of Christ. While her older sister Colleen rejects the family’s zealous devotion, Roxy grapples with her faith and a longing for salvation that clashes with her desire to follow her own path, even the fantastical hope of marrying Elvis Presley. The novel follows Roxy’s journey through a world imaginable in angels, demons, and everyday sinners, as she navigates the complexities of her religious upbringing, late‑teen emotions, and the alluring promise of popular culture. A brief, memorable appearance by Aretha Franklin provides an unexpected musical touchstone in Roxy’s quest for spiritual and personal identity.
