Books like The music shop by Rachel Joyce

In 1988, as CD sales surge across Britain, Frank’s small music shop on a dead‑end street remains a sanctuary for the lonely and restless, stocked with records of every kind. Frank’s talent for matching listeners with the right music draws a steady crowd, but it is the arrival of the practical, well‑heeled Ilse Brauchmann that turns his world on its head. Dressed perpetually in green, Ilse’s visits seem both ordinary and mysterious, and Frank finds himself enamoured with her. As he navigates his growing feelings, he must also confront the challenge of preserving vinyl in an industry shifting toward digital formats—an endeavor that tests his capacity to help others while struggling to love herself. The novel blends romance and reflective character study, highlighting themes of loneliness and the enduring appeal of analog music.
