Books like Daughter of the Stars by Phyllis A. Whitney

Lacey Elliot appears to have it all—beauty, talent, and a thriving business—but a decade of silence has left her life feeling incomplete. Her mother has never spoken of Lacey’s absent father, and the two women have grown up alone, surrounded by quiet strangers. When her mother begins to recover from a debilitating illness, a mysterious letter arrives, claiming to be from a distant great‑aunt. The letter reveals that Lacey’s father was killed when she was very young and claims that his killer may have returned. Compelled to confront the secrets that have shaped her family, Lacey journeys to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, a town with a turbulent history and a confluence of the Shenandoah—known in Indian legend as the "daughter of the stars"—and the Potomac River. There she seeks answers about her identity and uncovers a small community in which hidden pasts can never truly stay quiet.
