Books like Truly, Madly Manhattan by Nora Roberts

Hester Wallace, a single mother living in New York, has long preferred the solitude of her life. When her nine‑year‑old son sees the man living next door as a father figure, Hester’s world is turned upside down. Mitch Dempsey, the creative mind behind the comic‑book hero beloved by Hester’s son, finds himself irresistibly drawn to the mother he’s recently met. A parallel tale follows actress Ariel Kirkwood, who has endured the daily turmoil of playing a popular soap‑opera character. As screenwriter Booth DeWitt begins to write a new script inspired by his own past heartbreak, Ariel realizes she can finally step away from her sweet daytime persona and explore a more complex, scheming role—one that might rekindle a love long lost. The two narratives weave through romance, family dynamics, and the challenges of partnership in contemporary New York. Both stories explore modern love, the complexities of blended families, and the push and pull between career ambition and personal connection in an urban setting.
