Books like Giant pumpkin suite by Melanie Heuiser Hill

Rose Brutigan has always been different from her twin brother Thomas—musically bright, teller‑centric, a daydreamer who pursues a spot in the Bach Cello Suites competition. Thomas, carefree and unafraid of the humdrum, has taken to the challenge of cultivating a giant pumpkin in the yard of their elderly neighbor, Mr. Pickering. When a summer accident changes the course of their plans, Rose must grapple with new responsibilities, newfound opportunities, and the reality that growing up is not just about height or talent. Along the way they encounter tap‑dancing, classic musical numbers, mail‑order worms, neighborhood‑sourced compost, fresh‑squeezed lemonade and the excitement of the Minnesota State Fair—all while meeting a host of quirky local characters who add color to their adventure. Through humor, heart, and a touch of whimsy, the story explores sibling dynamics, ambition, and the unexpected ways that challenges can transform our lives.
