Books like Mr. Tanen's ties by Maryann Cocca-Leffler
Mr. Tanen, the beloved principal of Lynnhurst Elementary School, has become a local legend for his rainbow‑hued and uniquely patterned ties, bringing color and joy to the school’s hallway and classroom doorways.
When a new policy from his upper administration mandates standardization of staff dress, Mr. Tanen must choose between compliance and the symbolism his ties provide for students and staff. This change sparks a touch‑and‑feel journey as both the principal and his young learners confront the tension between individuality and conformity.
Through the tale, readers see how simple, everyday items can hold deep personal meaning, and how cooperation and understanding can weave a new pattern for a close‑knit school community.
