Books like On my honor by Marion Dane Bauer
Joel’s world shatters when his best friend drowns while they are swimming in a treacherous river—a place they had sworn never to enter. Devastated and terrified, Joel grapples with the weight of the accident and the knowledge that it was their collective disobedience that led to the tragedy.
Forced to confront his own feelings of guilt, he faces the difficult task of informing both families about the accident and the role their promise played. Through this crisis, the story examines the bonds of friendship, the consequences of broken vows, and the moral complexities children face when rules are ignored.
Set within a close-knit community, the narrative underscores the importance of obedience and the emotional toll that accidents can impose on young lives and their families.
