Books like The Rapture by Liz Jensen

After a devastating car accident leaves her shrouded in guilt and isolation, Gabrielle Fox leaves London to serve as an art therapist at Oxsmith Adolescent Secure Psychiatric Hospital. The facility houses some of Britain’s most dangerous youths, including the teenage killer Bethany Krall, whose violent past and unrepentant attitude set her apart. Bethany insists that her electroshock treatments grant her a prophetic ability to foresee disasters, a claim that initially strikes Gabrielle as delusional. Yet as Bethany’s warnings begin to mirror real geological and meteorological upheavals, the therapist finds herself drawn into a tense investigation that blurs the line between symptom and omen. With the arrival of a brilliant physicist, the stakes rise, forcing Gabrielle to confront difficult choices about faith, science, and what it means to love in tumultuous times.
