Books like Small Fry by Lisa Brennan-Jobs

Lisa Brennan‑Jobs tells the story of her upbringing between a single‑parent family and the affluent household of her father, Steve Jobs. Born on a farm in California, she grew up amid the rapid change of Silicon Valley. As a child, her father was a mythical, absent figure; later, he became more involved, bringing her into a life of mansions, vacations and private schools. Although his attention was thrilling, he could also be cold, critical and unpredictable. Lisa’s relationship with her mother grew strained during high school, prompting her to move in with her father in hopes of finding the parenting she had longed for. The book presents a portrait of a complex family and serves as a subtle love letter to California in the seventies and eighties, illustrating the poignant experience of a young woman caught between two imperfect yet extraordinary homes.
