Books like The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton

In a Florida that is surrendering to swelling waters and violent storms, electrical line worker Kirby Lowe, his pregnant wife Frida, and their sons Flip and Lucas brace for a catastrophic hurricane. As the boys vanish on the eve of the storm, Kirby ventures into the tempest's fury to find them, while Frida gives birth prematurely to an extraordinary child, Wanda, named after the storm itself. The narrative follows Wanda from childhood through adulthood, tracing her adaptation to a landscape that has crumbled, to a community that remains in a state of abandonment. Through four parts—power, water, light, and time—Wanda’s story mirrors the relentless cycle of nature’s forces and the slow dissolution of society. The book examines the environmental upheaval tearing Florida apart, the emotional toll on those left behind, and the resilience required to discover adventure, love, and purpose in a world reordered by nature.
