Books like The cat who went into the closet by Lilian Jackson Braun

After moving into the Gage mansion on Goodwinter Boulevard, crime writer Jim Qwilleran and his cat Koko find that the house’s fifteen closets hide more than junk—layers of family history, forgotten bank records, and old newspaper clippings. The clues point to an infamous 1869 fire that gutted Moose County, the disappearance of a potato farmer, and the tragic suicide of former owner Euphonia Gage. As Qwilleran pieces together the Gage family’s buried secrets, the mystery intertwines with Pickax’s small‑town dynamics, leaving the town—and its residents—in a tense search for truth. The story blends Qwilleran’s investigative wit with Koko’s feline curiosity, turning a seemingly mundane house into a focal point for historical intrigue and local folklore, and keeping readers guessing until the cold season swallows another fatal secret.
