Sophie, a half‑black, half‑Jewish mystery writer, has always found herself in precarious situations. When her brother‑in‑law is found dead and her sister becomes the prime suspect, Sophie's instinct drives her to investigate. She enlists an attractive private investigator, Anatoly Darinsky, to help take incriminating evidence and pull back the curtains on a web of deceit within the San Francisco setting. Her brother‑in‑law’s secret life produces a slew of possible suspects, but the local police show little interest in these leads. Sophie therefore decides to stir up trouble herself—planning a risky strategy to lure the killer out. Her plan hinges on whether Anatoly will stand by her side to protect and protect her from danger. The novel blends contemporary romance with suspense, offering a fast‑paced narrative that keeps readers guessing on both the love and truth fronts.
