Books like Sixty Days and Counting by Kim Stanley Robinson

When President‑elect Phil Chase wins the election, he finds the planet on the brink of irreversible climate change: food shortages, shrinking housing, declining medical care, and disappearing species. Washington experiences extreme weather swings, a stark reminder of a global system gone awry. Despite the dire circumstances, Chase remains resolute and launches an ambitious plan to avert disaster, forming a team of leading scientists and advisers. His aides confront personal challenges as they work to implement the plan: Charlie Quibler returns to politics at the cost of his family life, while Frank Vanderwal struggles with a brain injury and a dangerous black‑ops threat. In a world of near‑total surveillance and dwindling freedom, the stakes for the new administration rise with each passing day, and only a collective miracle can halt the ticking clock of catastrophe.
