Books like Franklin and the Contest by Kids Can Press
Franklin the Turtle dreams of winning a contest that tests who can keep active for five continuous hours. While Bear, Rabbit, and Beaver quickly fill their time with simple activities, Franklin has trouble staying occupied. He tries jumping, standing on his head, and even eating fly soup, but none of these last long enough. When all else fails, Franklin decides to keep his mind busy for the entire period, and his cleverness pays off. This Level 2 first‑reader story offers longer texts, varied sentence structures, richer vocabulary, and clear visual clues to help young readers build reading fluency.
