Books like People of the raven by Kathleen O'Neal Gear
In People of the Raven, archaeologists Kathleen and Michael Gear weave a historical thriller set more than 9,000 years ago on the Pacific Northwest. As glaciers melt and iconic creatures such as mammoths, mastodons, and giant lions vanish, the Raven People, led by chief Rain Bear, face a looming war with their mortal enemies, the North Wind People. When a beautiful, red‑haired woman named Evening Star—an escaped slave—appears at the council lodge, Rain Bear must decide whether to protect her and risk an attack by the North Wind or send her back and protect his people from imminent death.
The novel draws on the controversial discovery of the Kennewick Man, a Caucasoid male mummy, to ground its narrative in real prehistoric archaeology, while exploring themes of race relations, survival, and the harsh realities of life in a rapidly changing pre‑historic environment.
