Books like Happiness for beginners by Katherine Center

Thirty‑two‑year‑old Helen Carpenter, a newly divorced mother, joins a wilderness survival course in the remote mountains of Wyoming, persuaded by her ten‑year‑younger brother. What starts as an attempt to rebuild her life turns into a transformative adventure amid mosquitoes, a surprise summer blizzard, and a curious group of sorority girls. During the three‑week trek, Helen confronts the wilderness’s physical challenges and her own emotional limits. The rugged environment forces her to rely on herself and the people who initially irked her, learning to stand up for her needs, embrace fear as bravery, and discover that true hope often begins with getting lost. The novel blends comedy, self‑realization, and the practical lessons of survival, all while exploring themes of family dynamics, divorce, and female empowerment in a contemporary setting.
