Books like The stone forest by Karen Harper

In 1985, sisters Jenna and Amanda Kirk are kidnapped from their Indiana quarry‑town home. Jenna later is found wandering alone in her grandfather’s stone forest, drugged and devoid of memory, while Amanda’s fate remains unknown. The tragedy compels their mother to propel a political career that culminates in her becoming the state’s first female lieutenant governor. Fifteen years later, plagued by nightmares and guilt, Jenna returns to Stone County to piece together the events of that night. The family’s Victorian house feels more like a trap than a refuge, and her memories begin to surface, revealing a terrifying truth: someone is deliberately scaring her away—and it may be someone she trusts. With the help of two high‑school friends, Jenna confronts her darkest fears, faces the mystery of her sister’s disappearance, and unravels a disturbing puzzle that could change everything. The novel explores themes of family bonds, personal trauma, political ambition, and the lingering shadows of a crime that never seemed to close.
