Books like The irregulars by Jennet Conant

Jennet Conant’s history follows Roald Dahl, a former RAF pilot and young diplomat posted to the British Embassy in Washington, Washington‑D.C., during World War II. Tasked with leveraging his charisma, Dahl becomes an essential asset to the British espionage network orchestrated by the legendary Chief of Staff, Intrepid. Over the course of the conflict, Dahl, alongside a cadre of colorful co‑conspirators, engages in surveillance, misinformation, and covert operations that support the nascent American intelligence community and influence the political landscape, including the election of Harry S. Truman. Drawing on previously unpublished wartime letters, diaries, and interviews, Conant delivers a meticulously researched account of propaganda, counter‑intelligence, and moral ambiguity in the espionage arena of WWII.
