Books like The walls by Hollie Overton

Kristy Tucker, a single mother and press agent for the Texas Department of Corrections, documents death row inmate interviews and the final moments of executions. Her exposure to the harshest aspects of humanity takes its toll. When she meets Lance Dobson, her son’s martial arts instructor, she hopes he will bring the happiness she yearns for. Soon Kristy realizes Lance is far from a savior: he is abusive—both verbally and physically—making her feel as though she is already serving a life sentence. Faced with a domestic abuser who could be dangerous to her family, Kristy contemplates taking decisive action. Using the inside knowledge she has gained about the criminal justice system, she plans to eliminate the threat, raising questions of morality, the limits of survival, and what a woman is willing to do to protect her child.
