Books like An elderly lady is up to no good by Helene Tursten

Maud Tursten’s collection follows Maud, an 88‑year‑old Swedish woman with no family or friends, who lives alone in her late father’s spacious Gothenburg apartment. With a quirky sense of humor, she enjoys traveling the world and surfing the web from her father’s ancient armchair. When a local celebrity covets her apartment and a former lover’s engagement is threatened, Maud takes decisive action—disposing of bothersome neighbors and, ultimately, a dead body that draws police attention. The stories blend mystery, humor and the peculiar adventures of a solitary, sharp‑tongued elder. Maud’s adventures exemplify her confidence and resilience: she turns tragedy into opportunity and refuses to be a passive victim of fate. The collection is a lively mix of irreverent humor and subtle mystery, showcasing Tursten’s skill in combining tight plot twists with witty dialogue.
