Books like Whatshisface by Gordon Korman

Cooper Vega, a 12‑year‑old who has moved three times in five years, finds himself reunited with old friends through a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art smartphone. The phone, however, behaves peculiarly—its glitches are not mere bugs, but evidence of a ghostly presence. When the supposedly haunted phone begins communicating with Cooper, it introduces him to Roderick Northrop, a spectral figure who seems to be both friend and puzzle. Together, they navigate the mystery hidden within the device, uncovering secrets that blur the lines between technology and the supernatural. In the process, Cooper's loyalty, curiosity, and resourcefulness are put to the test. Set in a middle‑school environment, the story blends elements of mystery, friendship, and supernatural intrigue, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as they follow Cooper’s quest to uncover the truth behind his haunted smartphone.
