Books like Endless frontier by G. Pascal Zachary

Vannevar Bush is presented as a decisive 20th‑century American visionary, whose career spanned academia, industry, and national defense. From his early tinkering in Massachusetts to teaching electrical engineering at Tufts and MIT, he co‑founded Raytheon and built advanced computers during the Depression. During World War II Bush served as President Roosevelt’s key adviser on military technology, launching the Manhattan Project and coordinating the efforts of thousands of civilian scientists to develop atomic weapons. After the war, he shifted focus to the long‑term—publishing the seminal essay “As We May Think” and the “Endless Frontier” report, which linked national security to research strength and proposed a permanent federal funding system for university science. His legacy endures in the continued federal support for scientific institutions and in the foundational ideas that anticipate the personal computer and the Internet.
