Books like I know an old lady by G. Brian Karas

The book presents a fresh version of the traditional cumulative tale wherein an old lady’s strange culinary choices prompt a series of escalating events. Through lively language and rhythmic repetition, the narrative captures the humor and charm of the original folklore while engaging young readers. Illustrated pages enhance the story, guiding children through each step of the rhyme and inviting them to anticipate the next verse. The retelling maintains the core structure of the familiar folk song and preserves its entertaining references to eating, heightening the sense of anticipation and surprise. Designed for juvenile literature, this edition introduces classic English folk song elements and nonsense verses, making it an enjoyable addition to any classroom or private collection devoted to folk traditions and children's literature.
