Books like Mrs. Jeffries and the silent knight by Emily Brightwell

In the twentieth instalment of the Mrs. Jeffries Victorian Mystery series, the sudden death of Sir George Braxton in a frosted fountain throws a small London community into confusion. The victim’s three daughters and a wary group of houseguests offer little in the way of alibis, and even the household cat seems hostile towards everyone. Adding to the intrigue, the Home Secretary dispatches Inspector Gerald Witherspoon to the scene, bypassing local officers. It is Mrs. Jeffries, the housekeeper and unsung sleuth, who pulls together the clues—using her keen observation, sharp mind and a devoted team of assistants—to solve a crime that threatens to disturb the quiet Christmas celebrations. Mrs. Jeffries, often dubbed the ‘Miss Marple of Victorian Mystery’, demonstrates that a woman’s intellect and ingenuity can rival the most celebrated detectives of the era, while her polished detective work ensures that justice is served before the holiday season ends.
