Books like Shady lady by Elizabeth Thornton

Jolie Chesney, the no‑nonsense publisher of the Avon Journal, faces a crisis when a celebrated war hero storms into her office demanding a retraction of rumors about his wild sexual exploits—rumors that have already found their way into the paper’s gossip column. Determined to protect her journalistic integrity, Jolie refuses to compromise, but the situation escalates when her star reporter vanishes under mysterious circumstances. Seeking help, Jolie turns to the charismatic hero, whose ties to the Special Branch may hold the key to saving her friend’s life. Their uneasy partnership turns personal as they trail a cold‑blooded killer, forcing Jolie to weigh her career, her heart, and her own safety. As the danger mounts, Jolie’s choice to set a trap for the killer draws her and the war hero closer together, uncovering a conspiracy that threatens to change, or end, their lives forever.
