Books like A Suitable Vengeance (Inspector Lynley) by Elizabeth George

Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley and his fiancée, Debbie Cotter, travel to Howenstow, his ancestral home, for a festive engagement weekend only to find the house simmering with family tensions. The weekend takes a grim turn when a journalist is found brutally murdered in the nearby village of Nanrunnel. Although the crime lies outside Lynley’s jurisdiction as a New Scotland Yard investigator, he becomes preoccupied with the case because evidence points to both the estate manager and, disturbingly, his own family network. With forensic scientist Simon Allcourt‑St. James assisting, Lynley must untangle layers of betrayal, lost bonds, and deep‑seated secrets that threaten to unravel the Howenstow aristocracy and their long‑serving kin. As more violent deaths unfold, Lynley confronts unsettling motives and the relentless grip of family loyalty, revealing that in this Cornish setting blood ties are almost unbreakable, whether one wishes the truth or not.
